Meet Dr. Christine Lay (she/her/hers)

I am a licensed psychologist in Maryland and provide individual psychotherapy and psychological evaluations for children, adolescents, and adults. I work with you, as I truly believe you are the expert in your life, to uncover the relationship between past experiences and patterns and how it all impacts your current life. I see my job as helping you to connect the different parts of yourself in order to lead a more satisfying and authentic life. I understand it can be difficult to open up to a new person. I aim to go at your pace and be there to listen without judgement. My goal is to provide a compassionate, brave space for you to share your stories, including the influence of cultural factors.

I am passionate about working with underserved populations, including BIPOC and the LGBTQIA+ community. I utilize a cultural lens in therapy and aim to affirm all of the identities that make you who you are. I use an integrative therapeutic approach, tailoring the sessions to what each individual person would benefit from while always caring for you as a person. I want to always empower you and build upon the beneficial skills you already have but may not realize are there. I value your opinion and experience of therapy and encourage you to provide feedback so we can collaboratively work together to achieve goals. I truly believe therapy is not one size fits all and I want your therapeutic experience to be beneficial. If that means that we are not a good fit, then I will work to provide you with referrals to other clinicians who may be more appropriate and helpful with achieving your goals in therapy. I want you to have a space where you feel comfortable being yourself whether it is with me or another clinician.

Through psychological evaluations, I further aim to understand you and how we can best help you and/or your child improve your/their functioning in different areas of life, including school, social, and/or work. I view evaluations as another piece of the puzzle that makes you who you are. I want to enhance your life by providing you with a better understanding of yourself and help you obtain any beneficial accommodations at school and/or work.
